Devaluation of Democracy

source: Times of India. FIR against Army Major Aditya

On Saturday, a mob of 200 people attacked an Army convoy at Shopian's Ganowpora village. In retaliatory firing, two youths were killed and another was injured. The state police booked Major Aditya and the Army's 10 Garhwal for murder and attempt to murder for the killings.

In the assembly, BJP MLAs demanded the dropping of the Major's name from the FIR, saying the move would demoralise the armed forces. Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti of PDP rejected the demand, saying the state government had already ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.

"The state government should withdraw the FIR against the Army officer and lodge a fresh one without naming anybody," BJP's RS Pathania told the House as soon as the session began.

Mehbooba said the probe into the "unfortunate incident" would be taken to its logical end. "The Army would not be demoralised by an FIR. There can be black sheep in the Army also," she told the House.

The Chief Minister said the Army had ignored a police advisory to avoid the Gawanpora route.

"During the meeting of the Unified Headquarters recently, I asked the forces to show restraint in controlling law and order. I directed them to fire in the air," she said.

All kinds of unprecedented are happening now.

The Supreme Court Judges met the press and shared their private letters to the Chief Justice in the public domain.

Now, FIR is filed against an Army officer.

In the early morning, at the defense headquarters, the Army Chief, the Navy Chief and the Air Chief Marshall had a private breakfast meeting without the Defense Minister.

"What should we do, now?"

"So far, we don't have a legal departments in the military. It's time, we need to hire legal professionals to defend our officers in the court of law."

"What will they do after filing a FIR?"

"They would arrest our Major and put the Major in the jail."

"For time being could we hire some legal consultants."

"Could we apply for an anticipatory bail?"

'What are we talking about? We have the weapons. Who ever have weapons, they make laws."

"India is a democracy."

"It should be our decision. Whether India continues to be democracy or not."

"Could we follow the General VK Singh way?"

"What did he do?"

"A military coup!"

"A failed military coup. That was a failure."

"But we can learn from his failure."

"Where is General VK Singh?"

"Once General VK Singh was a lion. Narendra Modi made the General a cat."

"Could we follow the Supreme Court judges way?"

"We all three Chiefs meeting the press."

"Sharing our concerns in the public domain."

"That would be an unprecedented."

"Shall we take help from our Defense Minister, Nirmalaji?"

"In fact, the Chief Minister confirmed that she consulted with the Defense Minister Nirmala."

"And, what did Nirmalaji say?"

"Go ahead and file a FIR against Major Aditya."

"Let us go slow and watch."

The Chiefs left without taking any decision. Their conversations were leaked to General VK Singh.

General VK Singh is now part of the Sushma ministry. But the General always keep an eye on the defense ministry.

On receiving the military information, General VK Singh contacted Subramanian Swamy.

Subramanian Swamy don't want to have a one on one meeting with General VK Singh. The meeting would come under Amit Shah radar. So, Subramanian Swamy suggested the Home Minister Rajnath Singh place.

All three met at Rajnath Singh.

Rajnath Singh said, "Since it is a discussion about Defense, I would like to include Monohar Parrikar."

"But Parrikar is in Goa."

With a smile, Rajnath Singh launched Skype online video chat and invited the Goa Chief Minister Monohar Parrikar.

General VK Singh said, "It's very unfortunate for the Military and for India."

"You're the first military person to go to the Supreme Court."

"If I were the Defense Minister, it would not have happened."

"But, Narendra Modi made you a cat; you're not a lion anymore."

"A Lion is always a lion. The defense needs a lion."

Manohar Parrikar said, "I was a lion."

"If you were a lion, then why did you run away from Delhi?"

"I didn't run away. I did protest."

"What kind of protest you did?

"Not to work under the authoritative Narendra Modi."

"Nirmala is also a lion."

"No. Nirmalaji is a cat."

"Is it because, she is woman?"

"No. Uma Bharati is a big lion."

"Ofcourse, Uma Bharati is a soldier."

"You should see Uma Bharati in action."

"Uma Bharati would have been the best Defense Minister."

"By this time, Uma Bharati would have destroyed Pakistan."

"How long could we go with this Vikaas bhajan?"

"I am tired and sick of Modi's speech."

"Modi is very monotonous."

"If you watch the visuals, it is very boring. Same gesture."

"Let Narendra Modi continue with his Vikaas bhajan; but we need another leader."

"I could be a Prime Minister for Non-development activities."

General VK Singh said, "I came to the parliament with a hope. Now I lost my hope on the power of legislature. Sword is more powerful than your pen or pencil."

"What do you plan to do?

"A coup. General Musharaff style."

"You are a Member of Parliament. Not a General anymore."

"I am always the General. In fact, this time it will be much easier."

"How?"

"Last time, I had to move the troops from outside to Delhi."

"Now, I am right here at the center. Inside out."

"We are curious. If you had to do, how will you do it."

"I will ask for an appointment with Narendra Modi."

"Then?"

"When I am in private with Narendra Modi, I will say..."

"What will you say?"

"Sorry, Mr. Prime Minister. I had to do this for my mother nation."

"You cannot take any weapon inside the Prime Minister home."

"I won't. I will tell the Prime Minister to talk to the Military Chiefs."

"What will they tell the Prime Minister Narendra Modi?"

"They will confirm the Military Coup."

"Then?"

"I will make the announcement to the Citizens of India?"

"What kind of announcement?"

"Exactly what did Narendra Modi do on demonetization."

"Could you play it for us?"

"My dear fellow citizens of India, on November 8, 2016, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi demonetized the 500 and 1000 rupee notes. He said that those notes are just paper.

Likewise, tonight I, General VK Singh demonetize the democracy."

"Sounds good. Keep going."

"Demonetize the democracy. The people representatives..."

"Who are those people representatives?"

"The MPs. Member of Parliament."

"Will you demonetize the MP?"

"Yes. MP are no longer the people representative. They lost all their power and value. From tonight onward, they will be an ordinary citizens like you."

"Why MP?"

"That's what I learned. The Member of Parliament has the real power."

"By taking away the MP title, I will devalue the democracy."

Both Rajnath Singh and Subramanian Swamy learned the important lesson from the General VK Singh.

The real power in democracy is not with the Prime Minister.
The real power in democracy is not with the Ministers.
The real power in democracy is not with the President.
The real power in democracy is not with the Speaker.

The real power in democracy is with the Member of Parliament.
The real power in democracy is not just with 282 BJP MPs alone.
All 543 Member of Parliaments are equally powerful.

The 543 Member of Parliament could save; as well as could destroy the democracy.

A few MPs are dead. The Parliament doesn't have the full 543 Members.

How about election for those constituencies?
One Member of Parliament just died today.

Some times, only ten MP present in the house. The ten MP could introduce a no-confidence motion and call for a vote.

The General VK Singh started showing interest in this topic.

"Is it possible?"

"Absolutely."

"That's amazing. But is it not a coup."

"It is non-violent seizure of power."

"I love it."

"Moreover, other country would accept the new Prime Minister."

"But, the speaker needs to allow that no-confidence motion."

"I will find the schedule for Thambidurai."

"When Thambidurai sits in the Lok Sabha speaker seat, we shall execute our plan."

"Thambidurai may not agree to it."

"Thambidurai doesn't know the rules of the parliament."

"Do I need to show my gun?"

"No. Show him a bunch of 2000 rupees notes, he will cooperate with you."
